South Africa’s Rising star Corbin Bosch has been served a legal notice by the PCB for alleged contract violation. Bosch was picked by Peshawar Zalmi in the Draft held on 13th January in the Diamond category of the Draft. The notice was served to Corbin Bosch through his agent, and he was asked to justify his actions within the stipulated time frame.
Reason for the issuance of legal notice
According to reports, the legal notice was issued by PCB because of the late pullout from Corbin Bosch from PSL over IPL. Bosch was initially not selected in the original Draft of the IPL. It was only on March 8 when it was announced that he had signed for Mumbai Indians as a replacement player for his South African compatriot Lizard Williams. This news took PCB by surprise, who were not expecting any player to pull out since the IPL auctions had already taken place before the PSL’s Draft.
Reaction of the PSL franchises on the legal notice
As reports say the PSL franchises were angry on Bosch when the news of his withdrawal from the league was announced. The franchises wanted the PSL management to take some kind of action as it would set an example where players would pull out late from their contract and join IPL in favor of PSL. It was reported that a few franchises even suggested an outright ban, too, as the IPL does, but the management decided to serve legal notice for the time being.
Why PSL is clashing with the IPL juggernaut
Usually, the PSL happens in the months of February and March, where it would face stiff competition from the ILT20, SA20, BPL, and international cricket. This year PCB changed PSL’s schedule in March and April to have it directly clash with the IPL. There were two reasons given by PCB for this change in schedule 1st there would only be one league running opposite to it instead of the usual three plus with no international cricket; PCB wanted to sign the high-profile cricketers who could not get selected for the IP. The 2nd reason was the absence of international cricket. Since there is little to no international cricket, when the IPL is played, the PCB would have secured the services of the foreign players for the complete season without any hiccups.
There were concerns raised by the franchises when it was announced last year that the PSL would clash with the IPL.
One of the concerns that the franchises had was the potential chance of players selecting IPL over PSL even after getting selected for the PSL. Now, with that concern coming to life, it would be interesting to see what steps the PCB would take to ensure such incidents don’t happen in the future.
