The 29-year-old all-rounder has been imposed a heavy fine of USD 4000$, which is roughly more than 1.12 million Pakistani rupees. The fine was imposed on Jamal by the PCB for showing a political slogan in support of the former prime minister and World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan.
When did this incident happen?
This Incident dates back to December 2024 during the England test series. It was during that Series when Aamir Jamal was spotted wearing a floppy hat with the number 804 written on the underside of his hat. The number 804, which has been assigned to Imran Khan as his prisoner number has been mostly used as a political slogan. This was the reason for which Aamir Jamal was imposed with a heavy fine of one million.
The political importance of the Number 804
The number 804 has long been associated with Imran Khan who has been in jail since August 2023 for alleged corruption charges. Where he was assigned the number 804 as his prisoner number. The PTI (Imran Khan’s political party) uses that number as a political slogan and rallying cry among its supporters. There have been various celebrities in Pakistan who have endorsed the number 804 as a gesture of support for the former prime minister but Jamal has been the first example of a current cricketer who has come in support of Imran Khan.
The Reason for a hefty fine.
Usually, the PCB doesn’t fine its players as heavily as they have fined Aamir Jamal. According to reports the PCB wants to make an example out of Aamir Jamal for others to refrain from supporting Imran Khan through various political slogans. The current PCB Chief, Mohsin Naqvi, is also the sitting Internal minister of the country as well as a very close ally of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, whose party (PML N) has been at loggerheads with Imran Khan’s PTI.

What is ICC’s perspective on This?
Since Aamir Jamal supported Imran Khan in a training session and not in an actual match, it wasn’t a violation of the ICC’s rules. However, it does violate the PCB’s code of conduct, which is similar to that of ICC. It violated clause 2.23 of the code, which states that the player cannot comment on any sensitive, political, communal, or racial secretarial issues, due to which Aamir was imposed a heavy fine of one million.
Aamir Jamal wasn’t the only one slapped with a fine. According to reports a host of other players were fined as well which includes Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayoob, and Abdullah Shafique who were all fined 500,000 rupees for coming late during Pakistan’s tour of Australia. Similarly, Abbas Afridi, Usman Khan, and Sufiyan Muqeem also received fines of USD 200$ for breaking team protocols during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa in January, but it seems Aamir Jamal was the one who suffered the harshest penalty of them all as this is seen as more of a hard lesson than a normal penalty on disciplinary action.
