After Pakistan’s bowling Coach Morne Morkel resigned following the team’s 5th-place finish in the World Cup, a flurry of speculations has swirled around the cricketing circles. In a bid to quell these swirling rumors, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken definitive steps by appointing new bowling coaches, aiming to usher in a fresh chapter for the team.
Newly Appointed Pakistan’s bowling coaches have plethora of experience in the Bank
In a substantial growth for Pakistan’s cricketing future, two legendary names have footed into coaching roles to impart their wealth of experience and knowledge.
Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal, held in awe for their prowess on the field, have been appointed as bowling coaches for Pakistan. This dynamic duo, with a huge number of wickets and memorable performances under their belts, is set to mentor the next generation of Pakistani bowlers.
The Former pacer represented Pakistan in 237 matches, picking up 427 wickets across formats while the former wizard wreaked devastation with his spin during his playing career, accounting for 447 wickets in 212 international matches.

First Assignment of Pakistan’s Bowling Coach
The newly-appointed bowling coaches’ inaugural tasks include the Test series against Australia planned from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, and the T20I series against New Zealand from January 12 to 21, 2024, PCB declared in a statement. Their future commitments for PCB will be decided accordingly.
All the new faces in the Pakistan men’s cricket team have a tough challenge upfront as they embark on a tour to Australia for a three-match Test series under the 2023-25 World Test Championship umbrella. The three-match series commences on 14 December.
Gul has a previous Experience as Pakistan’s bowling Coach
The 2009 T20 WC-winning bowler coached during Pakistan’s white-ball series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates and against New Zealand at home earlier this year. He also coached Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League last season and was the coach of the Afghanistan team during the last T20 World Cup in 2022.
Communicating about his appointment, Umar Gul said:
“I am glad to join as the bowling coach of the Pakistan team and feel honoured to have been allowed to chip into Pakistan cricket by Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf.”
He further added,
“Having had previous working experience with the men’s side, I will bring my coaching expertise with the aim of elevating Pakistan’s bowling prowess to new heights.”
Saeed Ajmal’s thought process as Pakistan bowling Coach
Former Pakistan Spin bowler is delighted about his new role. He said:
“I am truly honoured and grateful for the opportunity provided by the Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf to serve as the spin bowling coach”
He further added
“I am delighted to contribute to the development of spin bowling talent within the Pakistan national team. I believe my career and coaching experience will help enhance the spin bowling arsenal of the team.”
