- Multan Sultans In PSL 7: A Cut From A Different Cloth - February 10, 2022
Karachi leg of the ongoing edition of Pakistan Super League has ended but not before producing some thrilling encounters, nail-biting finishes, and remarkable individual performances.
Amidst all the competitive cricket being played, however, one team that has truly stood out is the defending champion Multan Sultans. While the team prepares for their next match against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, it is time to revisit some of the records they have already created this season.
Multan Sultans in PSL 7
Most Successive Wins in the PSL
While some teams are finding ways to somehow win their first match, Multan Sultans are aiming for nothing but perfection as they now have won their last seven matches of the league. Two of these victories came in the play-offs round of PSL 6 while the other 5 have been recorded this season. Islamabad United previously held the record with 6 successive wins in 2016/17 but it has been broken after the Sultans defeated Peshawar Zalmi in Match 13 of this season.
Joint Fastest 50 in PSL 2022

Destructive right-handed batter Tim David achieved this feat against Peshawar Zalmi, reaching his 50 on just 18 balls. The blazing knock consisting of 6 sixes and 2 fours helped Multan Sultans reach a huge total of 222/3, a target which proved to be way too much for the Zalmi batters. Tim David shares this record with Paul Stirling of Islamabad United.
Highest Chase by a Team in the history of the league
The 207 run chase against Lahore Qalandars by the defending champions in Match 3 was the highest in the history of Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament. Sultans looked down and out, needing 16 runs in the last over but an incredible cameo by Khushdil Shah helped them cross the line eventually.
First Team in PSL 7 to defend a total
The first 6 matches of this season of the Pakistan Super League were won by the teams bowling first and it almost seemed as if it was becoming a “ win the toss, win the match” scenario. This was damaging to the reputation of the tournament but then Rizwan and his men broke the ice by defending their modest 175 run target successfully against Quetta Gladiators. Such was the effect of this win that the next 7 consecutive matches were won by the teams who batted first.
Rizwan’s Terrific Form

Brilliant captaincy, outstanding keeping, and incredible, consistent batting. Muhammad Rizwan has checked every box out there this season. Talking about his batting form, he’s amassed 215 runs this year at an average of 53.75 and strike rate of 138.7. He’s reached the 50 run mark 3 times in the 5 matches he’s played, which is the joint-highest by any batsman this season. His batting form can be judged by the fact that the duck he got vs Quetta Gladiators in match 7 was his first duck after 37 innings.
