PCB’s constitution 2014 has been restored as Najam Sethi is officially appointed as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board replacing Ramiz Raja. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif formed a committee that Najam Sethi leads on Wednesday. Najam Sethi’s Achievements In His Previous Tenure
PSL Final In Lahore:
Najam Sethi played the most important role in setting up a franchise league in Pakistan PSL which is now considered one of the best leagues in the world. In just the second season of the PSL Najam announced PSL final will be held in Lahore. It was looking like an impossible statement as many foreign players refused to play the finale. Still, Sethi looked firm in his mission and became successful when the final match of the Pakistan Super League season two was played on Pakistan’s home soil.
In Najam Sethi’s Tenure Pakistan Won the Champions Trophy:
He played an important role in bringing Sarfaraz Ahmed as a captain of the green team and Mickey Author as a head coach. These changes were a success as Pakistan won the Champions Trophy for the first time in history.
ICC World XI Tour:
After becoming the chairman, Sethi brought World XI to Pakistan to play three T20I in Lahore against Pakistan. This XI contained a number of star players like Hashim Amla, David Miller, Tim Paine, Imran Tahir and Grant Elliot. This series was a great success to leave a good impression on other teams and to bring cricket back to Pakistan.
Najam Sethi And His 14-Member Committee
The 14-member committee comprising former cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi, former women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir, Shafqat Rana, Nauman Butt, Haroon Rasheed, Shakeel Sheikh, Gul Zada, Gul Muhammad Kakar, Ayaz Butt, Mustafa Ramday, Azid Saeed, and Ch Arif Saeed will now overlook the affairs of Pakistan cricket team.

Future Aims Of Najam Sethi To Improve Pakistan Cricket
Najam Sethi thinks that there is a lot of work to do as he says “I have come after four years, there is a lot of work to do”. Later Sethi exclaimed that “We will work to restore the constitution, the governing board will be restored to its original form, after that a new setup will come, the main goal is the restoration of domestic cricket, cricketers will get employment, a meeting will be held in the next two or three days,”
The New Chairman of PCB thinks that it is important to make domestic cricket as strong as PSL. He says that “We need to fix our domestic cricket structure. In the last four years, there’s been a famine. How many new players have domestic cricket provided to the national team in the last four years? It looks like the PSL is supplying cricketers because very few are coming through from domestic cricket, and even if they do, they don’t get enough chances. This is a big challenge for us. Just as we made PSL a big international brand, we also need to make domestic cricket stronger”.
Sethi wants to bring PSL and international cricket back to Quetta. He told that “I am delighted that seven years after launching the HBL Pakistan Super League, I am today announcing our commitment to add Bugti Stadium in Quetta as the fifth venue for our marquee event.”
Najam also has the plan to employ foreign coaches for Pakistan Cricket Team. He exclaimed that “When I was in power, we had Mickey Arthur and results were evident. We were world number one in both ODI and Test cricket and we won the Champions Trophy as well.” Later he told that “We will decide about Saqlain Mushtaq and Mohammad Yousuf in an internal meeting”
Is the Arrival of Najam Sethi A Positive Thing For Pakistan Cricket?
The newly announced chairman has come up with some good plans to make Pakistan cricket at its best. This could be a positive sign for Pakistan as it was in 2014 when PSL came. The arrival of Sethi could also bring some more contests in domestic which would help the young talent to come out. Still, there are some negatives as well like the new chairman of PCB could also bring the old players who could break the unity of the Green Team.
As a Pakistani, I think Wasim Khan was a more deserving person to make the chairman as he is the one who has brought cricket back to Pakistan by arranging tours of various international teams like Australia. Wasim Khan could have brought more impact to Pakistan cricket than other chairmen.
