The year 2025 is super busy for the team Pakistan, especially the initial few months and there seems to be no space for PSL season 10. The think tanks are already on a search for dates but given how almost the entire year is jam-packed with leagues all over the world, there seems to be no space to fit in the double-digit season. Let’s take a look at how things are looking for the 10th edition.
Finding the Right Window for PSL Season 10
Pakistan’s brand of league cricket is facing scheduling issues for its next season which will also mark a decade to its inception. Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board has already begun finding the best window for the 2025 edition.
Starting in January, the Green Team will conclude their away tour of South Africa which includes two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The same month, Pakistan is scheduled to play three away ODIs and three T20Is. Very next month Black Caps and the Proteas will tour Pakistan to participate in the ODI tri-series. The mid of February also marks the beginning of the Champion’s Trophy of which Pakistan will be the host.
Hence PSL season 10 can not be arranged in its regular period. April could be used as a possible window but it clashes with IPL and the stakeholders would probably not want this to happen. The month of June can be utilized but the weather conditions aren’t the most ideal. This leaves us with the November-December window but again the tournament could clash with Australia’s Big Bash League and the players’ availability will become an issue.
Another possible way can be if PCB decides to scrape away any home series especially those falling in September/October. It is pertinent to mention here that the 10th season also marks the end of contracts with the franchise and the possibility of adding new teams and franchises is also in the cards. If the PSL is to remain alive and thrive, this upcoming season must get a date.
“Holding PSL will be a Challenge” Mohsin Naqvi
Mohsin Naqvi in a meeting has said that holding PSL 10 is a significant challenge owing to the tight schedule. Over the years PSL has become a massive arena to excavate important talent. To ensure it’s smooth sailing, it is of utmost importance that the league does not miss any season.
“PSL is Pakistan’s brand which is why it will get its due importance. Holding PSL 10 alongside international commitments will be a challenge but we are ready for it,”
The Pakistan Cricket Board will hold another meeting regarding PSL season 10 and its scheduling along with all the stakeholders and relevant members in the upcoming month whereby all the important discussions will take place.
