The PSL 2023 Draft took place in Karachi on December 15. All the franchises have completed their 18-player roster in the draft.
There were some big and interesting picks in the drafts. There were pickings from Sri Lanka – the Asia Cup 2022 winners – and Australia and England – the past two winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Other picks came from the West Indies, South Africa and New Zealand. In total, there were pickings from nine different countries.
As per draft rules, the team retained up to eight players which were already announced.
There must be a minimum of one foreign player and one local player each in the categories of Platinum and Diamond. In the first nine picks, teams must pick at least three foreign players while two additional picks are done in the Supplementary round.

Lahore Qalandars
The Defending Champions, Lahore Qalandars finally broke their trophy voodoo when they defeated Multan Sultans last year in the PSL final after beating them by 42 runs in Lahore. With the team now competitive as ever, they will be looking to defend their title.

Multan Sultans
The winners of the 2021 season, Multan ended as the second-best team in the last edition. Perhaps the most batting-heavy attack of this season, Multan dragged in big hitters in David Miller, Rossouw, David and brought back in Anwer Ali. They will be a team to look out for.

Islamabad United
Two times winner of the PSL – the inaugural season in 2016 and in 2018, Islamabad United came 3rd in the previous tournament as they were defeated by the eventual winners Lahore. One of the most consistent teams in the league, Islamabad have brought in some big names in the PSL 2023 Draft as they hunt to become the only team to win more than one title.

Peshawar Zalmi
The team with most finals played in the league’s history, Peshawar Zalmi were fourth in the last competition. They played the Eliminator 1 match against Islamabad but could not cross the line. This time, they have made some interesting moves in their roster. They grabbed the current all-formats captain Babar Azam, trading him for experienced Shoaib Malik.

Quetta Gladiators
They have been the most disappointing team since their title-winning run in 2019. Quetta have not reached the playoffs round from that point onwards. The same was the case last year. They were eliminated via poor NRR and ended as the second-worst team of the season. Quetta will look to improve as a team after they got a good mixture of experience and youth.

Karachi Kings
Perhaps the worst time Karachi ever faced in the PSL tournament. The 2022 edition was the first time they were eliminated in the first round, winning only just one match out of ten. In the draft, they have made quiet changes in the roster. They have added a few big names and some interesting changes they made. The 2020 champions will be looking to get back at their best again.
