Noor Ahmad’s Ban has caught fans ’ attention as a ban in league cricket is not something they don’t come across much. The current ban based on breaching the player-franchise contract sets a new pedestrian for the players to come.
The 19-year-old Noor was signed up by Sharjah Warriors for the first season of the tournament in January-February 2023. Noor becomes the second player after fellow countryman Naveen-ul-Haq to be banned by the ILT20 for the same reason. Last December, Naveen-ul-Haq was also banned by the league for 20 months.
Noor played seven matches for the Warriors in the first season, picking up four wickets for 148 runs, at an average of 37 and an economy of 7.04.
Noor Ahmad’s Ban is a consequence of breaching the agreement
Afghanistan’s spinner demonstrated promising performance with the ball. Despite being offered retention under the same terms for Season 2, the leg-spinner opted not to renew his contract with the franchise, resulting in a breach of the Player Agreement.
After Noor refused to sign the extension, Sharjah Warriors approached the ILT20 to intervene in the matter. A three-member Disciplinary Committee investigated the matter. The committee had initially recommended a 20-month ban for Noor. But a bit of leniency as per them dwindled it to 12 months.

Naveen ul Haq faced this same scenario before
Noor is the second Warriors player in recent months to be handed a ban. Last December, Naveen-ul-Haq also got through this scenario as he got banned by the league for 20 months for not signing the retention notice, effectively ruling him out of the ILT20 in both 2024 as well as 2025.
The ILT20’s Disciplinary Committee, comprising Chief Executive Officer David White, Head of Security and Anti-Corruption Col. Azam, and Member Emirates Cricket Board Zayed Abbas, individually heard both parties and, upon examining the evidence, issued a final verdict imposing a 20-month ban on Naveen.
Statement of ILT20 with regards to Noor Ahmad’s Ban
The case was referred to a three-member committee whose names were mentioned earlier for adjudication. After extensive discussions and hearing from Noor Ahmad and Sharjah Warriors, the committee decided to impose a 12-month ban on the Afghanistan spinner.
The committee stated, “The International League T20 has outlawed spinner Noor Ahmad for 12 months for breaching his Player Agreement with Sharjah Warriors who had signed him for Season 1 of the tournament. Noor was offered another year’s extension by the Warriors but declined to sign the retention notice for Season 2”.
The committee further added, “Noor played for Sharjah Warriors in Season 1 of the ILT20 (January-February 2023) who sent him a retention notice on the same terms and conditions by the Player Agreement terms ahead of Season 2. Following Noor’s refusal, the Sharjah Warriors approached the ILT20 to intervene in this dispute.
