In a dramatic move following Pakistan’s disappointing campaign from the Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for its players, preventing them from participating in foreign T20 leagues, sources confirmed on Tuesday. This decision comes just a day after Pakistan’s heartbreaking loss to India in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
Players Directed to Withdraw from Foreign Leagues
According to insiders, PCB Chief Operating Officer Syed Sameer Ahmed sent out an official notification instructing the players to withdraw from international leagues and focus on domestic cricket instead.
Top players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Faheem Ashraf, all of whom had been granted NOCs to play in the upcoming edition of Australia’s Big Bash League are now directly affected by this suspension.
Defeat That Changed the Narrative
The PCB’s decision to suspend the NOCs follows Pakistan’s disappointing defeat against India in a thrilling Asia Cup final held in Dubai. Members of the national team, including captain Salman Ali Agha, Faheem Ashraf, and Hassan Ali, returned to Lahore on Monday after the loss.
India secured their back-to-back Asia Cup title by chasing down Pakistan’s target in a tense last over finish. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the star bowler for India, taking 4 wickets for just 30 runs, effectively breaking through Pakistan’s batting lineup. Meanwhile, Tilak Verma’s unbeaten 69 and Shivam Dube’s quickfire 33 helped India seal a five-wicket victory.
With this win, India claimed their ninth Asia Cup trophy and extended their winning streak against Pakistan to eight consecutive matches, further adding to Pakistan’s struggles against their arch-rivals.

A Message to the Players
The PCB’s move to suspend players’ NOCs reflects the board’s desire to have its top players focus fully on national duties and domestic competitions. With major events like the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 coming up, the board wants players to perform and prioritize domestic structure and ensure themselves, fit, available, and ready to perform for Pakistan.
Debate Erupts Over PCB’s Decision to Prioritise Domestic Cricket
The decision over PCB’s call against the NOCs for the foreign leagues has sparked mixed reactions from fans and cricket experts, with some supporting the move to prioritize national cricket and domestic structure, while others feel that exposure in foreign leagues is important for players’ growth and experience.
