PSL 2023 Draft for players finalized; Lahore Qalandars to make the first pick

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have released the finalized chart for the PSL 2023 draft of players. Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in the table for the Platinum 1 category.

This will be followed by 2019 winners Quetta Gladiators, 2021 winners Multan Sultans, 2020 winners Karachi Kings, two-time champions Islamabad United and 2017 winners Peshawar Zalmi.

The next remaining 17 categories were randomized by a special statistical tool. Lahore Qalandars are the Defending Champions, who won their maiden title against Multan Sultans in the 2022 season.

The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League will be played across four cities; Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. It is expected that the PSL 2023 will likely commence from February 9 to March 19.

The tournament director of PSL 2023, Usman Wahla, said;

“Player Registration window for foreign players is also open and we are receiving encouraging responses, which is a testament to the reputation of the HBL PSL and how much the top players want to be part of it.”

PSL 2023 Draft: Sarfaraz Ahmed to remain as Quetta captain

In other news related to PSL 8, the Quetta Gladiators Owner Nadeem Omar announced that former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will remain as the franchise’s captain. Though a few days back, his category was demoted from Platinum to gold.

Until the 2019 season when they won their maiden title, Quetta Gladiators had the best win ratio across all four PSL editions. However, since their title-winning hunt, they have suffered from 2020 onwards. Quetta have won only ten games out of the 30 they have played in three seasons and failed to reach the playoff stage.

It was believed by fans and experts that under Sarfaraz’s leadership, the team is performing poorly. Even though he remained one of the most successful captains of PSL history.

Nadeem Omar said;

“Sarfaraz Ahmed will remain our captain and will play with honour, it is up to him to decide when it’s time to give up the captaincy. He has been playing brilliantly in domestic cricket as he is not much burdened.”
