As the ICC World Cup 2023 draws near, Pakistan finds itself in a precarious position. The tournament, scheduled to be held in India, adds another layer of uncertainty due to the long-standing political tensions between the arch-rivals. India has consistently declined to play the Asia Cup that is held in Lahore, opting for neutral venues instead.
Now, with time running out, a crucial question arises: Will Shaheen’s government grant them permission to travel to India and take part in this prestigious cricket event? The green team’s world cup fate rests solely in the hands of its government.
The Current Situation Of Pakistan’s World Cup Fate
PCB has penned a missive to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, beseeching official clearance for Pakistan’s world cup fate and engagement in the forthcoming ODI tournament orchestrated by India in October. The letter, divulged to the Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Interior, aims to procure endorsement for the men in green’s involvement and appraise the security measures at the designated venues.
The ICC has assigned five arenas for the men in green encounters: Ahmedabad (vs. India on October 15), Hyderabad (vs. qualifiers on October 6 and 12), Bengaluru (vs. Australia on October 20 and New Zealand on November 5), Chennai (vs. Afghanistan on October 23 and South Africa on October 27), and Kolkata (vs. Bangladesh on November 5 and England on November 12).
If the Green team advances to the semi-finals, the clash shall transpire in Kolkata, while the grand finale is slated for Ahmedabad on November 15. As the nation anxiously anticipates the government’s verdict, the aspirations of ardent men in green cricket enthusiasts teeter on the final decision of the government, with uncertainty enveloping the team’s tournament participation.
“The PCB has officially contacted the government to provide it guidance on its participation in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Just after the World Cup schedule announcement, we wrote to our Patron, Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, through the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry, sending the copy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior, requesting clearance to participate in the World Cup” PCB Spokesperson

Will Pakistan Send Their Representatives To India To Check Out The Security
As per the PCB, the government shall wield the power to unravel the process and chart the course ahead. The PCB understands that it’s the Government of Pakistan that has the ultimate say in shaping the necessary procedures. This might involve sending a team to India to carefully assess the venues and engage in important discussions with the event organizers.
Ultimately, the onus lies with the government to concoct an astute resolution, while bearing in mind the team’s safety and well-being. The nation waits anxiously for the government’s verdict, hoping for a positive outcome that allows the men in green participate in the tournament.
“It is entirely up to the Government of Pakistan on the process it wants to formulate and follow before advising us on the next steps. If this requires sending an advance team to India to inspect the venues and hold meetings with the event organisers, then it will solely be the government’s decision”
