Nasir Hossain: On Trial For Adultery

Ex. Bangladesh Cricketer Nasir Hossain has been accused of adultery, as another man has claimed that he married his wife illegally. Nasir has been put on trial for charges due to allegations of a second marriage. He was allegedly married to his wife who was already in her first marriage. Things got a lot more complicated when the first husband of his wife came out in public and pressed charges against him.

Nasir Hossain married Tamima Sultana Tammi, a flight attendant, in February 2021. But the marriage has been deemed illegal. Tamima was accused of being married to a Bangladeshi businessman, Rakib Hasan. He is furious over what happened and didn’t hesitate to press charges of adultery against the ex-cricketer.

Bangladesh Law

According to the Penal code 1860, the statement 494:

“Whoever, having a husband or wife living, marries in any case in which such marriage is void because of its taking place during the life of such husband or wife, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine.”

Hence, Nasir Hossain is expected to spend seven years in jail and a heavy fine if found guilty. As he is well above the age of 30, hence all laws will be valid for him and he can be punished accordingly.

As far as his wife, Tamima is concerned, she has been charged with forgery over allegations that she made fake divorce documentation to marry Nasir Hossain.

Rakib’s Lawyer, Ishrat Hasan said: “Tamima has forged divorce documents and postal receipts to show that she was no longer married to Rakib.”

Nasir Hossain’s Lawyer Verdict

Farid-ud-din Khan, who is representing the couple, is confident that his clients will not be found guilty. He said: ” Adultery cases are rare. Usually, it’s tough to prove. We are confident that these charges cannot be proven.”

Status of Trial

Currently, both Nasir and his wife are out of prison on bail and the trial is proceeding as per the court’s order.

Nasir Hossain’s Career

Nasir has played 115 games for his country across all formats for Bangladesh. He scored 2700 runs and picked up 39 wickets. He last played in January 2018, in an ODI against Sri Lanka.

Conclusion: It is rather apparent that these cases are rare and the chances are minimal that they will be found guilty and let’s hope that he comes out clean.
