Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal suffers heart attack and has been hospitalized after a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at Savar on Monday.

The 36-year-old batter, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League at BKSP, suddenly felt discomfort in his chest while he was on the field. He was rushed to the hospital for further evaluation after being given medical attention on the field.
“He complained of having chest pain and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was checked and underwent an ECG,” BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed.
An official from KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar mentioned that Tamim was brought to the hospital twice within a single day.An official medical bulletin from doctors in Dhaka said: “He returned to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack, and we subsequently did an angiogram and angioplasty to remove the blockage.

BCB several board members reached hospitals immediately as Tamim Iqbal Suffers heart attack
The BCB called off its scheduled board meeting for the day following Tamim’s sudden illness, with several board members heading to the hospital to visit him. Later in the afternoon, the BCB confirmed in a statement that Tamim underwent a successful angiogram procedure to address a blockage in one of the arteries of his heart.
“We are very thankful to all the medics and specialists for their swift actions in this critical situation,” BCB President Faruque Ahmed said. “The outpouring of concern for Tamim reflects how much he is loved and appreciated by the nation. He further added
“The BCB is closely monitoring his health and continues to remain in contact with the hospital’s medical team. The board is committed to providing every support and assistance to ensure Tamim’s swift recovery”
BCB chief physician shares update on Tamim’s current condition
Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness after undergoing a successful stent procedure, according to Debashis Chowdhury, a medical officer at the BCB.
“His vital signs are improving, and we are optimistic that his overall health will continue to improve over the next 24 hours.”
“The hospital has informed us that a stent has been placed in one of his arteries, while the other arteries remain healthy,” he shared.
Tamim played 70 Test matches, 243 one-day internationals and 78 T20 internationals for Bangladesh between 2007 and 2023, amassing over 15,000 runs across the formats.
He is the only Bangladeshi batsman to score centuries in all three international formats. Iqbal made 25 international hundreds and memorably smashed a brilliant 103 against England at Lord’s in 2010.
