Gary Kirsten’s Career as a batsman
Gary Kirsten’s career was marked by impressive performances and notable achievements. As a stalwart of the South African team, he was heavily known for his solid batting technique( wall of South Africa) and ability to score big runs when it counted the most. Kirsten, 56, played 286 times for South Africa across all formats which include 101 Tests and 185 one-day internationals between 1993 to 2004.
Kirsten’s finest hour came when he bagged 275 runs against England in 1999, which remains one of the highest scores by a South African batsman. He also played a crucial role in South Africa’s iconic 1998 Test series win against Australia, scoring a century in the decisive final Test. Kirsten’s eye-catching career statistics, including over 7,000 Test runs at an average of 45, earned him a reputation as one of the best batsmen of his era.

Gary Kirsten’s Career as a Coach
Gary Kirsten’s coaching career has been thrived and marked by success and innovation. After retiring as a player, he stepped into coaching boots and quickly made a name for himself as an acumen, diligent and effective mentor. Kirsten’s most famous coaching achievement came as head coach of India, where he worked from 2008-11, and won the 2011 ODI World Cup. India’s first major trophy in 28 years.
Kirsten’s tenure is marked by an emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and smart tactics, which assisted India become a dominant and unprecedented force in world cricket. He then proceeded to coach the South African team, leading them to several series victories and a short stint as the world’s number-one Test team.
Gary Kirsten started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals then he moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore, currently Gujarat Titans’ batting coach.
The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed on 28th April Jason Gillespie as the red-ball head coach and Gary Kirsten as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.

He further added,” Gary’s coaching career has been marked by his ability to instil a winning mentality, develop young talent, and achieve success at the highest levels of the game, making him one of the most respected and sought-after coaches in cricket”.
Kirsten will join Babar Azam and Co. on the England tour next month where Pakistan will play four T20Is to prepare for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. Pakistan will also play three T20 internationals in Ireland before facing England and then heading to the United States for the T20 World Cup.
