Afghanistan became the first team to qualify for the Super 4 Stage of the Asia cup 2022 on Tuesday, with two back-to-back wins in Group B. They thrashed away Sri Lanka in the event’s opener and Bangladesh in their next match of the Group Stage to book their place in the Super 4 round.
Afghanistan are now the massive opponent for others, including India and Pakistan, in the remainder of the Asia cup 2022 after beating Bangladesh by a big margin of seven wickets in Sharjah on Tuesday. This incredible win by Afghanistan was entirely due to Najibullah Zadran. He smashed six sixes that led Afghanistan in the Super 4 Asian cup.
There was a total target of 128 runs for victory; Afghanistan were in trouble at 62-3; however, Najibullah joined Ibrahim Zadran for an unbeaten stand of 69 as they won by 9 balls to spare. Two Zadrans paved the way for Mohammad Nabi’s men into the Super 4. Spinner Mujeeb ur Rehman and Rashid khan took three wickets each to establish the win.
Strong Afghanistan enters Super 4 with style
This is the second time Afghanistan has made a straight victory to become the first of six teams to enter the next stage of the competition, which acts as a tune-up to the T20 WorldCup in October-November.
Mujeeb and Rashid Khan combined to take three counters each to reverse the Bangladesh strike order. Some late resistance from Mosaddek Hossain (48) ensured that Shakib al Hasan’s team led its way at 127 runs.
However, a power-packed performance by Najibullah meant that the Afghans made light work of the whole chase. Zadran scored 43 runs off 17 deliveries, including six sixes and a solitary four.
Ibrahim played an ideal foil for him by remaining unbeaten at 42 of 41 balls and taking the team over the finishing line in the 19th over. In the end, Nabi, captain of Afghanistan, says that Mujeeb and Rashid are two world-class bowlers and that taking early wickets was their plan. He also praises Zadran’s efforts for the way he ended the game.
Earlier, the blue men thrashed all Dasun Shanaka’s batters on 105. Their openers later single-handedly reached the feat, sparing plenty of overs and stayed at the top of the standings in their respective group.
