The International Cricket Council (ICC) yearly updates all three formats and their rankings in the month of May. All completed series since May 2019 will be dropped and the series that were played before May 2022 are now weighted at 50 per cent. India dethroned Australia to become No.1 in Tests while they extended their lead in T20Is. Australia, meanwhile, has retained their No.1 ODI ranking following the annual update.

Pakistan’s New ICC Rankings 2023
Babar Azam and his team’s biggest achievement in the past 12 months have come in the One Dayers, where they achieved the number one rank for the first time. But shortly after their loss against New Zealand in the fifth game, they fell back to third. But the annual update saw them pipe over India to become the second-ranked team.
In Test and T20Is, not much have changed but rather, they lost rating points. More so in the red-ball while they slipped to fourth in the T20Is. Let’s take a look at Pakistan’s New ICC Rankings 2023.

India piped Australia to become the No.1 team once again. The 2023 World Test Championship finalists IND and AUS lead the top two with ENG making an impressive comeback on top of the table.
England, which implement a new style of playing called “Bazball” has been a huge success. Last year, they fell to no.6 in the Test rankings with 88 rating points. But their recent performance under Ben Stokes, who took charge in May 2022 and is yet to lose a series as captain, saw them in the top three. They didn’t change their recent rank but gained seven rating points to extend their gap between No.4 South Africa.
As for Babar Azam’s red-ball team, they fell further in rating points while not changing their rank. They have a huge gap between them and 5th rank New Zealand. Their most easy WTC 2021-23 cycle was damaged following a horrible home series run. But they can at least hope for better in the new cycles.

Australia retained their top spot in the 50-over format following their tremendous run in the past 12 months. This was strongly supported by their series wins over India, New Zealand and England.
PAK’s impressive run in the One Dayers keeps on continuing, placing in second just above India. They recently become the top-ranked side following a 4-0 win over the Kiwis but fell back to third after the loss in the fifth game. Had they won 5-0, they would have retained their top spot. Nevertheless, it is a great achievement for Babar and his men as the team have lost just two ODI series in the past three years.
World Cup holders England dropped further and are now at 6th, dropping 10 rating points. The improvements came from Afghanistan, gaining a massive 17 rating points to climb to 8th.

India have gotten a good gap between them and the number second-ranked team England, who won the Men’s T20 World Cup last year. Last year’s runner-ups PAK have found themselves slipped to No.4 following their recent series drawn against the Kiwis, while the latter moved two positions up to third with SA falling to 5th. Apart from that, no changes were made in the positions.
