James Anderson’s incredible career has once again hit new heights, A seven-wicket haul in England’s recent Test match against New Zealand has propelled James Anderson to the Top Test Bowler of the world rankings, surpassing Pat Cummins and Ravichandran Ashwin. The 40-year-old’s remarkable performance helped secure a 267-run victory, cementing his status as one of the all-time greats in cricket.
Anderson, 40 years and 207 days old, is also the oldest player to top the rankings since Clarrie Grimmett, the Australian legspinner, in 1936, having played a key role in England’s recent success, which has now won ten of its last 11 matches.
James Anderson Reclaims Top Test Bowler Ranking for the Sixth Time in Illustrious Career
With 682 wickets in 178 Test appearances and 682 wickets, Anderson is the third most prolific spinner in the history of cricket, after Muthiah Muralidaran (880) and Shane Warne (708). It is his sixth time at the top of the rankings since he began his career against Zimbabwe at Lord’s in May 2003.
For five months in 2018, Anderson was the top test bowler for five months before being displaced by Kagiso Rabada, a talented fast bowler from South Africa. He passed his long-time teammate Stuart Broad and India’s R Ashwin to top the rankings for the first time.

Despite that, it might be a short rise back to the top. Anderson leads Ashwin in second place by just two points with 866 ranking points, who also played well for India against Australia in Delhi last week. Even though Cummins is home this week for a family health issue, he could regain top billing last fortnight against India with two Tests left.
