Yes. That is the short answer. Pakistan can still qualify for the next round but like every time, they need help from other teams. This time, they need one big favour from their group opposition. Not only that, we will discuss the possibilities for other teams for the 2024 World Cup Group Scenarios.
Those other teams include defending champions England, who are in danger of getting eliminated, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
2024 World Cup Group Scenarios: Can Pakistan still qualify?
The first and most important thing is for Pakistan to win their games. They have not opened their account for this tournament. Their next game is up against Canada, which will be played tomorrow (Tuesday, 11 June). Their final group game will be up against Ireland on June 16. If the Green Team wins both, they will end up with four points.
Now comes the important part. Pakistan must hope that Ireland does a little favour for them. Ireland must defeat the United States of America. A defeat from both Ireland and India will put the USA on four points as well. This will put both the USA and Pakistan on four points each separated only by the Net Run Rate.
In case this happens, Pakistan needs to beat both Canada and Ireland by a big margin to give whatever hope they have left. Also, this is all put into a thought considering there is no washout for any Pakistan or USA games.
If Pakistan gets one washout and a win, they will get three points only which will not be enough for them to go through the next round. Same case for the USA, if they get one washout with a loss, that extra point will be enough to keep them in contention for the next round.
Given how Ireland are playing at the moment and how the USA have been performing tremendously, it is sad to say that Pakistan will have an early exit.

2024 World Cup Group Scenarios: What about other teams?
England – Group B
England’s title defense was terrible in the 2023 World Cup and it seems that it’s similar here as well. After getting a washout against Scotland and a loss against Australia, England must win their final two games against Oman and Namibia. That will give them five points. A big margin will get their NRR up.
Currently, Scotland is on five points and Australia four. The Australia vs Scotland game will be crucial. England hopes that their Ashes rivals defeat their European neighbours by a heavy margin to give them a chance to qualify. Should Scotland lose by a small margin or even get a washout, they will qualify. Australia will still have a game against Namibia.
New Zealand – Group C
New Zealand have played only one game so far but suffered a horrible defeat against Afghanistan, losing by 84 runs. They have three games remaining. Afghanistan and the West Indies are table toppers with four points each and a very, very healthy NRR.
To qualify for the Super 8s, the best scenario for New Zealand is to win their remaining games (which includes the West Indies game as well) and hope that Afghanistan defeat the West Indies.
The final table will see Afghanistan unbeaten with eight points, New Zealand with six points and West Indies at four.
Sri Lanka – Group D
Sri Lanka are on the verge of getting eliminated. They have a tougher time than the other teams in this group. With two losses, they need to win big against the Netherlands and Nepal. That will bring them to four points.
Then this is what they need to hope; South Africa clean-sweeps the group and the Netherlands beat Bangladesh. The points will be South Africa with eight while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Netherlands at four points each. This will be determined on the NRR.
