“Najam Sethi has personal agenda and he wants to remain in the limelight.” – Ramiz Raja speaks

Ramiz Raja has been under fire since his removal as the PCB Chairman after Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved a 14-member management committee that Najam Sethi leads.

Ramiz was live on his Youtube channel, “Ramiz Speaks Cricket” and lashed out his frustrations at the way he was removed as the PCB Chairman. He revealed that Najam Sethi attacked the PCB headquarter like an FIA raid in such a manner that he was not able to take my personal belongings from the office.

In such a shocking reveal from the former Pakistan opening batter, here’s what he further said.

What really happened before Sethi took over?

The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Najam Sethi has a “personal agenda” and only enjoys being at the centre of the news.

“Najam Sethi has come to PCB with non-cricketing motives. He hasn’t held a bat ever in his life. Najam Sethi has no interest in Pakistan Cricket. He only wants authority in PCB.”

Raja said before further adding that he will raise the issue of political interference in PCB and will give a lecture on that platform when he travels to Oxford University.

“I was removed from the chairmanship of PCB without evaluating my performance and this happened just to accommodate Najam Sethi in PCB. I am politically victimised just because I was appointed as the chairman of PCB by Imran Khan.”

Raja was very strong against India pulling out of the Asia Cup 2023, a tournament that will be held in Pakistan after 15 years of taking place. Raja believed that if India does not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, then Pakistan will not travel to India for the ODI World Cup.” Because of this, he was met with heavy criticism and felt that if it was one of the reasons why he has been removed then its a “wrong perception” to take a strong stance against India.

Ramiz Raja, known very well for his commentary, was concerned about his return as the broadcast commentator, believing that Sethi will not allow him to come back. Though the current PCB boss did say that Ramiz will be allowed to commentate.

He also added that politics should have never interfered with the Cricket Board of the national country, believing that it was an “outside attack” on the headquarters.

“Cricket is a game for cricketers. The government of Pakistan removed a test cricketer from the chairmanship of PCB just to accommodate Najam Sethi. This is a highly disrespectful way of treating your cricketers. The government of Pakistan changed the whole constitution of PCB just to accommodate Najam Sethi. I have never seen this ever in my life.”

PCB Plans revealed by Ramiz Raja

The former PCB chairman revealed what he planned for the future of cricket in the national country. The biggest criticism he faced during his tenure was the wickets that were prepared for Test matches when Australia and New Zealand toured.

But Raja responded: “PCB in my tenure imported Australian soil to prepare bouncy pitches in Pakistan.”

The announcement of having drop-in pitches, which kept delaying, was a huge deal for many but his way of preparing wickets during the important tours dented the idea of having such.

Another plans he had for the future was the arrival of the Pakistan Junior League, a mini-league for youth cricket which was the first of its kind. He believed that with the arrival of PJL, the country will get “raw talent” for the future. “Nothing can be more destructive in PCB than closing Pakistan Junior League.” – Ramiz said if PCB decides to scrap it.

He even further had plans for bringing cricket fans into the stadium through biometric and face verification for the eighth edition of the PSL.

The former Chairman was vocal about the current system of the country’s domestic structure, where Sethi planned to bring back the 2014 system.

“I wrote a letter to six different banks for the revival of department cricket in the domestic structure of Pakistan and no bank replied. This will be nothing less than a miracle if any department agrees to invest in domestic cricket under Najam Sethi.”

Raja also commented on the captaincy of Babar Azam, who was also under criticism when the Green Team was whitewashed by England in the recent Test series.

“I had a four hours long session with the captain and management of Pakistan Cricket Team after England gave whitewash to Pakistan.”

“I believe in an authoritative captain but Babar Azam has to bring improvement in his captaincy. Babar Azam never discussed the selection of Mohammad Abbas and Mir Hamza in the test squad.”

Regardless of how one view these reveals, one can argue that the removal of Ramiz Raja as the PCB chairman in the middle of his tenure was not the right way.
