Mohammad Wasim talks about missed players in Central Contracts 2022-23

PCB announced the central contracts of the Pakistan Cricket Team for the year 2022-2023. The board has declared different contracts for white and red-ball cricket thus dividing them into two categories. There are only 5 five players who have got both red ball and white ball contracts. Four new players have been placed in the emerging category. However, people are amazed to see all-rounders Imad Wasim, and Faheem Ashraf missing out.

White Ball And Red Ball Contracts:

Only five players have been awarded white and red ball contracts including Captain Babar Azam, wicketkeeping batter Mohammad Rizwan, Imam ul Haq, Hasan Ali, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Babar has been placed in category A in both red and white-ball cricket agreements followed by Pakistan star batsmen Rizwan who is in category A across both formats’ contracts.

Imam is part of the C and B categories of red and white-ball cricket respectively. Pakistani bowler star Shaheen also falls into Category A of the two deals while Hassan is placed in categories B and C in red and white-ball cricket sequentially.

Red Ball Cricket Contracts:

Pakistan’s former test captain Azhar Ali is been promoted to category A while Fawad Alam is placed in category B. Abdullah Shafique, Naseem Shah, and Nauman Ali are Category C candidates. Pakistan’s former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Abid Ali, Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Shan Masood, and Pakistan Ex Spinner Yasir Shah are part of category D.

Category D includes Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Wasim JR, Shahnawaz Dahani, Usman Qadir and Zahid Mehmood.

Emerging Contract Players:

PCB has increased four players in the Emerging contract which is a good initiative for Pakistan Cricket. The youngsters are Ali Usman, Haseebullah, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Huraira, Qasim Akram, and Salman Ali Agha.

Notable Characteristics Of 2022-2023 Central Contracts:

Players will get an extra 10 percent match fees in all formats of the game. There will be a 50 to 70 percent increase in match fees for the non-playing members of the team. Azam will get an Allowance as a part of the agreement to pay back him for the additional responsibilities associated with this role.

Mohammad Wasim on selecting the youngsters stated that,

“ I want to congratulate our four younger players who have received red-ball contracts for the first time as part of our vision and strategy to identify, groom and develop specialists for the traditional and purest format of the game”.

The selector on the leftover players thought that,

“ I understand there will be a few disappointed players who have missed out on contracts, but I want to reiterate that we are not limiting and restricting ourselves to these 33 players. As and when required, players from outside the list will be included”.

Overview

Overall The Central Contracts are pretty good with good features which will be beneficial for the players. The idea of increasing the Emerging category is satisfactory and the players are placed in categories by their recent performance which is quite ethical.

The idea of dividing the red ball and the white ball contract players is awesome but Players like Mohammad Hasnain, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas, and Faheem Asharaf are missing.
