How Important is Babar Azam for Pakistan in T20 WC 2021?

With each passing day, we are getting an inch closer to a globally anticipated tournament, T20 World Cup 2021. All eyes are set on Babar Azam and his men who will represent Pakistan in this mega event.

Big names have always found themselves under the microscope in massive events like these. The ability to carry on with the legacy in such tournaments is something that keeps you a bar above the rest.

Babar Azam is undoubtedly one of those big names and holds the center of attention for a huge number of fans worldwide. The progress of Pakistan within the tournament circulates around the performance of Babar Azam, both as an individual player and as the captain.

Here we will try to analyze how Babar Azam holds a pivotal role in Pakistan’s success looking into two major aspects.

Importance of Babar Azam in Pakistan’s Brittle Batting Unit:

Babar Azam ready for WT20

Babar Azam has been the force to reckon with in almost every game he plays for his country. He has scored everywhere, against top teams in crunch situations, who can forget the match-winning knock in ICC World Cup 2019 against New Zealand. The forthcoming T20 World Cup is of the same intensity and pressure & fans would love to see him thrive & lift the Finals.

Looking at his numbers, they speak volumes about his potential as a batter and keeping in view the fragile & brittle batting line of Pakistan. He would have to put each & every step ahead cautiously rather than in aggressive mode.

Babar Azam’s Dominance in UAE

Babar Azam has been the success story so far in international cricket.

The Whole batting side of the team revolves around Babar Azam, off late he has been the main architect for building huge totals & chasing bigger scores, irrespective of conditions, oppositions & venues.

He is no different in UAE, as he has scored 5 ODI  successive centuries in UAE, making him the quickest to achieve that milestone in just 33 innings which is still a record.

Babar Azam has been equally good in T20s as well, whether in PSL or when playing in national colors. He has played 11 T20’s for Pakistan in UAE where he has scored 392 runs, at an impressive average of 49, with 4 fifties to his name.

With the upcoming world cup being scheduled in UAE, Babar Azam undoubtedly holds the key to success for Pakistan to reach the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup 2021.

Importance Of Babar Azam as Leader

Although Babar Azam is comparatively newer to captaining a side at the International stage. But he has been thoroughly involved in leading various sides at the Domestic & U-19 level.

Tremendous test of Babar’s leadership skills awaits him at this year’s World T-20. Unfortunately for him, he will have to tackle numerous challenges.

First and foremost, he will have to cope up with the negative impact of the recent series of abandonments. These cancellations surely dented the morale of team Pakistan. The cruel world with its dual standards will keep on whining about the importance of mental health. But nobody will utter a word about the sentiments of Pakistani players who have gone through a lot in recent times.

Another related aspect is that these abandoned series have resulted in outrage among the fans. All this ultimately resulted in increased pressure on the team as the fans are demanding to return the favor in the upcoming world cup.

Unsettled team management presents another daunting challenge for the man in charge Babar Azam.

Despite all the odds, if anyone can confront these turmoils, Babar Azam is indeed the one. He can nullify all these issues through sheer focus & by leading from the front. He needs to marshal his troops focusing on match-to-match performance, leaving other issues aside.

Darren Sammy mentioned in a recent interview that all Babar Azam needs to do is to properly rotate his bowlers. He seems confident as he recently entitled the tournament as a ‘home event’. He will have to carry on with this positive frame of mind under all circumstances if Pakistan are to do well in the tournament.
