Every Cricketer faces a decline in his cricketing career throughout the series or in important events. The number one T20I batsman Babar Azam has also come across a struggling panel during Asia Cup 2022. The batter is the backbone of Pakistan’s batting line but unfortunately, has not performed in the ACC contest. The fans had a lot of expectations from him and now feel as if this is the decline of Babar Azam.
Azam’s Performance In Asia Cup 2022
Azam is seen struggling in this tournament following his underdog performance in all stages. He played four matches which were against Hong Kong, Afghanistan and twice vs India. The right-handed batsman scored 10 runs in the first match against India. He scored nine runs against Hong Kong, 14 against India in the Super four and got out on duck against Afghanistan. The skipper scored 33 runs in this tournament with an average of 8.25.
What Are The Possible Reasons For The Decline Of Babar Azam?
Babar Azam was in his peak time before the Asia Cup started. The possible reason for the decline could be Mohammad Rizwan’s approach to powerplay. The wicketkeeping batter starts slowly and this creates pressure, and to release the pressure, Babar tries to hit boundaries. We have seen this in recent matches where the captain gave his wicket through soft dismissals.
Another reason is that the Pakistani skipper has a lot of responsibilities. The green team’s middle order is supposed to be weak which creates a lot of responsibility on the openers to play the game till the end. This is why they cannot play big shots with freedom.
