Babar and Rizwan’s Selfish Decision: Denying Youngsters a Chance at the Top

The captain of Pakistan and the wicket-keeper opener recently made a self-centred approach in which both senior batters refused to play in the middle order. Babar and Rizwan’s selfish decision to not let young players open the batting for the Pakistan cricket team has been widely criticized as a selfish move that denies youngsters a chance at the top. Although both Babar and Rizwan have been performing magnificently in their roles as openers, their refusal to give younger players is nothing less than a self-centred move. Many experts and fans believe that Babar and Rizwan play for themselves instead of playing for the team, but is this the truth?

Is This The First Time?

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have formed a successful opening pair for the Pakistan cricket team, but their self-centred approach did not allow M. Haris to open during the T20 World Cup 2022 was a major mistake. Despite Haris’s strong performances in domestic cricket and his eagerness to prove himself on the international stage, Babar and Rizwan refused to give him a chance at the top of the order. This decision was widely criticized and Pakistan had to pay for it in the shape of losing the final. Babar and Rizwan’s selfish decision once again is criticized during ongoing Pakistan vs New Zealand series where the pair did not allow the young promising talent of Saim Ayub and an experienced left-hander Fakhar Zaman to open.

Is Babar – Rizwan Pair Fit For Opening?

Everyone has their own opinions, but in my view, Babar and Rizwan are not suited for the opening slot. With openers like M. Haris and Saim Ayub who can explode in the powerplay, Babar and Rizwan could come in during the middle overs to anchor the innings. Rizwan is also a brilliant player of spin. So what’s stopping them? Babar and Rizwan’s egotistical issues to prioritize their own run-scoring over the team’s needs have been widely criticized. As the captain, Babar needs to make brave decisions like playing in the middle order. Both Babar and Rizwan are senior players and should give new talent a chance.
