Who should lead Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2024?

Quetta Gladiators have been having a rough patch in PSL for quite some time. Unfortunately, the patch has not come to an end this year too as they finished last on the points table. Sarfaraz Ahmed, the former captain of Pakistan Cricket, has been captaining the purple force too. But it looks like fans are raising questions about his skills and thinking about a replacement who could lead Quetta Gladiators.

Aggression may cost Sarfaraz his Reputation as a Good Captain

Sarfaraz Ahmed has been criticized for his attitude toward the bowlers. There has been a general view that he tends to be too aggressive and takes out his frustration on the bowlers, especially young bowlers. Hasnain and Naseem have been the target of this, but neither of them has ever said anything against their Kaptaan.

Is Sarfaraz’s Performance Good Enough to Lead Quetta Gladiators?

Another thing that has been a threat to Sarfaraz’s captaincy is his own individual performance. It has not been quite impressive.  The captain of the gladiators played 8 games this season, scored 162 runs with an average of 27.00 and a strike rate of 104.52. His highest score remained 41 runs. While this is not a terrible performance, it is not exactly an awesome performance either.  There were also some questions raised about the decisions made on the field and off the field. There was no set batting lineup, plus Quetta did not choose its best playing 11 in most of the games.

Who could be the New Captain?

What most Quetta fans suggest is a revamp of the whole management and the team. They want to see new faces and better strategies. The next in line for captain could be Mohammad Nawaz. He is a clutch T20 player, and Babar himself referred to him as his “matchwinner.” He mostly delivers with both ball and bat, but when he can not deliver with the bat, he delivers with the ball and vice versa. If we look at his stats, he played 10 games this season and scored 109 runs with an average of 12.11 and a strike rate of 101.86. With the bowl, he took 9 wickets and had an economy of 9.23. His best spell remains 2/17.

Nawaz also had the chance to lead Quetta Gladiators when Sarfaraz Ahmed got injured. He was a successful captain as he defeated Peshawar Zalmi and won his first game as a captain.

Will Quetta Gladiators change their ways ahead of PSL 9?

The all-rounder could turn out to be a promising captain who could lead Quetta Gladiators as he does have the capabilities to be one. However, it seems like the management is set on continuing with Sarfaraz Ahmed. Only time will tell if they want to change their plan.
