For a few months now, Pakistan’s young batting prodigy Saim Ayub has found himself under the spotlight, but unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. Once considered one of the most promising players in the country’s new cricketing generation, his recent performances have been lackluster and have raised more questions than answers.
Despite his appreciable career statistics, Saim has been under criticism following his weird and controversial performance in the recent T20 Tri-Nation series between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE, and in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. Struggling with the bat has been a major concern for him lately.
Saim Ayub’s performance in the T20 Tri-Nation series:
In the first match against Afghanistan, struggling with the bat, Saim scored 14 runs off 15 balls, and Pakistan ended up on the winning side. In the second match against Afghanistan, Saim got out on a duck, while he got 1 wicket; unfortunately, Pakistan ended up on the losing side. Against the UAE, in the first match, he scored 69 runs off 38 balls and supported his stats with 1 wicket as well. In the second clash against the UAE, he scored 10 off 11 balls. Fortunately, in both matches, Pakistan came out victorious. In the finale of the Tri-Nation T20 series, Pakistan faced Afghanistan, where Saim again struggled with the bat and scored only 17 runs off 19 balls. Pakistan ultimately ended up being the winner.

Batting woes continue in the Asia Cup 2025:
Seeing Saim Ayub’s performance in the Tri-Nation T20 series and still letting him play in the Asia Cup sparked many controversies, as he wasn’t good enough. Anyway, Saim played the first match against Oman and was gone for a duck. Saim continued struggling with the bat, but his bowling stole the show, as UAE conditions favour spin, and he got 2 important wickets. Pakistan won. In the clash against India, he again went for a duck, but his impressive bowling figure of 3/35 (4) left cricket fans in awe. Unfortunately, victory wasn’t in favour of Pakistan. Against the UAE, Saim again got out on 0 and ended up getting just 1 wicket, while Pakistan won.
In the Super Four round against India, struggling with the bat, Saim somehow managed to score 21 runs off 17 balls and went wicketless. The match ended in favor of India. Against Sri Lanka, Saim scored 2 runs off 3 balls, and against Bangladesh, he was again gone for a duck, once again surprising cricket fans with his bowling, getting 2 crucial wickets in a do-or-die match for Pakistan and qualifying for the finals.
An Unwanted Record for Saim:
Saim Ayub, once known for his fine batting, but now, due to his poor form he holds the most unwanted record that no batsman would ever want to have. Saim was seen struggling with the bat against Bangladesh when he got out on a duck for the fourth consecutive time in the same tournament, as a result, surpassing many names in world cricket. Saim now holds the record for most ducks (4) in a single tournament.
Saim’s bowling is stealing the show:
Despite his slump form and continuous struggle with the bat, Saim’s bowling has been shown stealing so far, and in the process confusing cricket fans whether to hate Saim for his poor batting performance or praise him for his excellent bowling.
Saim is among the list of leading wicket takers of the Asia Cup 2025 from Pakistan, with 8 wickets, surprisingly leaving cricket fans in awe.
