The Pak v USA match did not go as planned for team Pakistan. In fact, they had no plan and even if there was, it didn’t work. For the team Green, that game was an uphill battle from the word go. A slow start due to a sluggish pitch forced them to keep their feet on the brakes. Any acceleration from their side ended up in a wicket so they could not get a stable start. A Babar Shadab partnership proved to be their only source of runs but that too proved to be too little in the end. Team USA on the other had all the bases checked out. All the while they had their feet on the opposition’s throat, and even a super-over could not break their momentum.

Even though this World Cup upset wasn’t inevitable, it wasn’t expected to happen as it happened and it’s really hard to point fingers at the exact mistake. Pakistan players, with a plethora of experience, appeared clueless. Captain Babar Azam displayed no aggression, had no strategy and made poor decisions that went against them. The below-par fielding display diminished the little hope that was left in the game. An associate country playing their very first T20 World Cup outdid its opposition who entered the tournament for the ninth time and also has atrophy to their name.
