Pakistan Squad: Who’s In and who’s Out?

The squad is heavily based on the one that was picked for the Asia Cup 2022. Only 2 changes were made in otherwise the same squad.

Left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman misses out from the 15-men squad following his injury during the Asia Cup final but has been named in the reserves. PCB Medical panel believes that Fakhar will be available for the tournament but will only act as a reserved player if needed. Shoaib Malik also misses out on the 15-men squad.

Moreover, Shahnawaz Dahani missed out on the final fifteen. Hasan Ali also failed to make it in the squad as Mohammad Wasim Jr. is fit to represent Pakistan in the World Cup.

Reserved Players

  • Fakhar Zaman
  • Mohammad Haris (wk)
  • Shahnawaz Dahani

Pakistan Squad: Performances in the last tournament

Pakistan ended up in the Top 4 in last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 which was played in the UAE. Babar Azam and his men made history when they defeated India in the World Cup tournament match for the very first time.

The Green Team clean swept the whole group stage following wins over New Zealand, Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland. They topped the table and were the first team across the Super 12s round to qualify for the knockout stage.

Pakistan faced the eventual champions Australia, where the Aussies defeated them by five wickets in Dubai. They were the only Asian side to be included in the top four of the tournament.

This year, they are slotted in group 2 alongside India, South Africa, Bangladesh and the two qualifiers. They will begin their competition on October 23 against India in the iconic MCG.

Pakistan Squad: What are we expecting this time?

Expectations will be quite interesting this time around. The tournament is being held on Australian shores across seven cities.

Interestingly, PAK have played only four T20I matches in the country, all against Australia. They lost three out of four with one game was washed out. The last time Babar Azam and his men played in these conditions was in 2019, losing 2-0 to the hosts.

It will be exciting to see how our superstars will play this time. Since the last tournament, PAK have played 13 T20I matches, out of which they won nine and lost four. During this, they played in the Asia Cup and ended as Runners-up in the tournament.

There are great expectations for our heroes. And we believe Pakistan will qualify for the semi-finals of this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup.
