The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup saw India lift their second title, their first since 2007. They joined England and the West Indies with two titles each. This ninth edition of the tournament was a unique event, with multiple test nations failing to progress to the next round. With so much talent and performance, we build the best Team of T20 World Cup 2024.
The Green Team’s jury picked the best 12-man squad with the collection of players’ stats and their impact on their performances after careful consideration.
The 12-member squad includes four from the winning Indian side, two from runners-up South Africa, three from Afghanistan, and one each from England, West Indies and Australia.
Team of T20 World Cup 2024 – Top Order
1. Rohit Sharma (IND | Captain)

The winning captain and the star performer of the Indian side, Rohit Sharma was India’s leading run-scorer and as always, played an important role in giving his side the perfect start to the innings.
As a captain, he has been outstanding and did not lose a single game throughout the tournament, which itself is a record as it happened for the first time in a T20 WC event.
2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (AFG)

The highest run-scorer of the competition, Rahmanullah Gurbaz enjoyed his brilliant batting throughout the event. He had a great run with his opening partner Ibrahim Zadran, who both scored three opening centuries in the tournament.
3. Jos Buttler (ENG | Wicket-Keeper)

Jos Buttler could not lead England to back-to-back title wins but he led his team brilliantly with both bat and as a leader after there were chances of England getting eliminated in the first round.
His fiery batting at the top always keeps the opposition bowling in check and there’s no escape once he gets going. He is also our wicketkeeper of the dream team.
4. Nicholas Pooran (WI)

If there’s one man you need at number four who can anchor and blast through the overs, it’s Nicholas Pooran. The West Indian had a great tournament to remember, considering how poorly he performed in his first event in 2021.
Nicholas’ 98, which came against Afghanistan, is also the highest individual score this World Cup.

5. Suryakumar Yadav (IND)

The number second T20I rank batter in the world, Suryakumar Yadav played an important role in this Indian side with both bat and field. In batting, he played two crucial knocks; one against the USA on a very difficult wicket. The other was against England in the semi-final.
And what can we say about the fielding, especially that catch where everyone shouted “Surya caught the World Cup!”
6. Heinrich Klaasen (SA)

The stats may look ordinary, but take nothing away from Heinrich Klaasen, who played a vital role in South Africa’s almost successful journey in the tournament. This includes a crucial 46 against Bangladesh, where he won the Player of the Match award.
His innings in the final were his absolute best, bringing back South Africa in the game and almost singlehandedly winning them the cup. But his dismissal came at a very wrong time.
7. Rashid Khan (AFG)

The magician Rashid was magnificent as a player and as a captain. He led his team to the knockout stage of the World Cups for the very first time. And much more than his batting, it was his bowling (As always) to do the damage.
8. Anrich Nortje (SA)

Nortje is a beast. He simply loves bowling in Men’s T20 World Cups. He took nine wickets in the 2021 edition and 11 in 2022, he got 15 in this event, joint second-most. What’s more is that he has got 35 T20 World Cup wickets, the most for South Africa and joint sixth-highest in total!

9. Jasprit Bumrah (IND)

There should be a biography of Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian speedstar is a generation bowler and a legend. What he did for India throughout will never be enough to appreciate. In big pressure games like Pakistan and the final against South Africa, when the opposition needed a run-a-ball with wickets in hand, Bumrah gets his side a crucial breakthrough and bowls economically.
Speaking of which, he had the best economy rate and the best average. There is a reason why he was awarded the Player of the Tournament award.
10. Arshdeep Singh (IND)
8 Matches | 17 Wickets | 12.64 Average | 7.16 Economy | 4-9 Best figures
One of the silent heroes of India who goes unnoticed. Arshdeep is fondly remembered for his dolly drop catch of Asif Ali in the 2022 Men’s Asia Cup encounter, in a must-win game. But that’s long gone now. Arshdeep turned out to be India’s highest wicket-taker and joint-highest in the tournament with Farooqi.
11. Fazalhaq Farooqi (AFG)

Joint highest wicket-taker with Arshdeep, Fazalhaq Farooqi lighted up the party for Afghanistan with his tremendous bowling. Especially in the first round when he gave them a perfect start in the games against New Zealand and Uganda.
He was the first one to break Wanindu Hasaranga’s record for most wickets in a single T20 WC edition before being joint by the Indian left-arm seamer.
12th Man. Travis Head (AUS)

The hero from the 2023 World Cup final is once again our 12th man in this competition. Australia may not have the result they needed this World Cup after being crashed out in the Super 8s, but Travis’ run was crucial in Australia’s run-up. He played a huge knock against India with his 76, but was not enough for him to chase down the target.
Nevertheless, his record speaks for itself and proves to be a handy all-rounder with his gritty part-time spin.
