The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering retaliating against Shahnawaz Dahani for his social media outburst. PCB warned the young fast bowler for his tweet against journalists after he was passed over for the Asia Cup and one-day series against Afghanistan.
What was this tweet against journalists?
Dahani was not included in the team for the Asia Cup because Naseem Shah, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr., and Shaheen Afridi were chosen by the Inzamam-ul-Haq-led selection committee.
He vented his frustration on Twitter and questioned why cricket commentators were ignoring his talent despite his strong performance. He even reprimanded former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif for leaving him off of a chart that examined the performance of Pakistan’s fast bowlers recently. Latif had shared a screenshot of the List A statistics of a few Pakistani pacers who have made the Asia Cup squad and also added Zaman Khan, who had been missed out.
The sindh-born player, noticing that his name was missing from the screenshot, commented: “Seems as if Dahani is not a Pakistani pacer”, along with an image of his stats.
The Lanka League player continued to complain about the lack of oversight in a subsequent tweet against journalists and said “Not even a single journalist or cricket analyst even dared to ask questions or show these stats to selectors.
What is going to happen now?
Both of Dahani’s tweets have now been removed amid rumours that the PCB’s legal department will investigate into the situation and perhaps take action against the player, who is currently representing Dambulla Aura in the Lanka Premier League.
The young bowler immediately received a call from PCB officials about his tweet against journalists and was reprimanded for making such controversial comments in public.
Shahnawaz has been there for the men in green many times. He last played for them in October 2022 in the Asia Cup 2022. He has represented Pakistan in 11 T20s and 2 ODIs for Pakistan.
Dahani, a list A cricketer, has an average of 24.35 with 56 wickets in 31 games. He has an economy of 5.65 and yet was left out of the squad despite his stellar record. It is safe to say his anger is not misplaced.
