In welcoming news for the fans, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on X the resumption of PSL X from 17th May. The PSL was postponed on the 8th of May due to the ongoing clashes between Pakistan and India. Although the resumption was announced, there are still a lot of challenges for the PCB to tackle.
Availablity of foreign players in PSL X
The first hurdle in the PCB’s way is to convince the foreign players to return to PSL X just a week after it was postponed. Although there weren’t any unpleasant experiences faced by the foreign players, it would still need a bit of convincing from PSL management and franchises. There is speculation at the moment that few of the players are expected to not to return when the tournament resumes, and PSL is looking to conduct a replacement Draft for the players who would not return.
The venues for the remainder of the tournament.
It is still not clear where the tournament will restart, but most probably, it will be in Pakistan. The Emirates Cricket Board has already declined PCB’s request to host the tournament in UAE; with that, PCB’s options are limited, and at the moment, it mostly looks like the tensing of PSL X will be staged in Pakistan. Karachi has emerged as the most viable venue at the moment with both Rawalpindi and Lahore close to the border with India.
The Rescheduling of the Pakistan and Bangladesh series.
With PSL X ending on 25th May the day, the day where first Pakistan vs Bangladesh match was scheduled it is now confirmed that the PCB has to reschedule that series most probably it has to delay the series up till 30th of May to accommodate all the players to finish their PSL duties and join the team in time for the tournament.
With these challenges, we also have to appreciate the PCB’s efforts as after sustaining major setbacks first in the form of disruption of the tournament and then by the rejection faced by the Emirates Cricket Board, the Pakistan Cricket Board, along with the franchises can start the tournament after just one week.
