As earlier decided by the FIH Executive Board, Pakistan’s men’s national hockey team will play an important playoff series against Bangladesh this November. Pakistan’s inability to feature in the 2025 Asia Cup due to ‘force majeure’ reasons beyond the team’s control led to the arrangement of this series.
Fair Pathway for World Cup Qualification
Since Pakistan had already been promoted to the FIH Hockey Pro League, the Executive Board made a fair decision to give the Pakistan Hockey Team another opportunity. They will now face Bangladesh, the team that finished sixth in the 2025 Asia Cup, in a best-of-three playoff series.
Fixture Details
Dhaka, Bangladesh, will host the Playoff Series with the following schedule:
Match 1: 13 November 2025
Match 2: 14 November 2025
Match 3: 16 November 2025
High Stakes for World Cup Qualification
The winner of this Playoff series will secure a spot in the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup Qualification Tournaments, which will take place in 2026. This means the stakes are high for both teams, as the series will directly affect their path to the next Hockey World Cup.
What This Playoff Means for Pakistan
For Pakistan, this playoff series is more than just a set of matches. It represents a chance to prove their progress in international hockey after missing out on the Asia Cup. The team, backed by its rich hockey history, will be eager to showcase their talent and determination on the field.
Home Advantage for Bangladesh
Bangladesh, on the other hand, will enjoy the advantage of playing at home. With the support of their local fans in Dhaka, they will aim to make the most of the opportunity and challenge Pakistan for the World Cup qualifiers spot.
