Peshawar Zalmi Bowling Woes: A Major Hurdle in PSL 2023 campaign

Peshawar Zalmi is one of the most successful teams in the Pakistan Super League. Yellow Strom has played four finals in the tournament, most by any team. Their major strength in past years was their bowling, having Hassan Ali, Shahid Afridi, and Wahab Riaz. Viki is still in the squad, but due to his age and bowling no balls at crucial stages, He has lost his charm, and his performance is a headache for team management.

This year, Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling under their new captain Babar Azam is facing issues. Due to their bowling, they lost three matches and made a tough run for qualifiers.

Peshawar Zalmi Bowling Woes:

The team has been unable to restrict the opposition in the final overs, which has cost them dearly in matches. The team’s pacers need to be more consistent with their yorkers and slower balls. Otherwise, they are making it easier for the opposition to score freely.

One of the major reasons for Peshawar Zalmi bowling woes is their inability to find a potent opening bowling pair. The team has tried different combinations, but none of them has been able to provide the breakthroughs needed to restrict the opposition’s scoring. The lack of quality spinners in the squad has also been a concern, as the team has struggled to take wickets in the middle overs

Despite having a solid batting lineup,  Zalmi has lost three matches in the PSL 2023 season, mainly due to their bowling. The team has been unable to contain the opposition’s batting, and their bowlers have struggled to take wickets at crucial moments. This has resulted in their opponents scoring big runs, which has put pressure on Peshawar Zalmi’s batting lineup to chase down massive targets.

They also try Powell. Still, he went for 37 runs in two runs, Saad Massod on his debut conceded 40 runs against qalandars. Still, no one is yet to perform in bowling for Zalmi

Zalmi Lacking an emerging Bowlers:

One of the major reasons for their poor display of bowling is they do not have a proper emerging pacer. Men in Yellow drafted Haseebullah khan, Suffyan Muqeem, and Saad Masood as emerging picks; however, both Sufyan and Saad were unable to perform. They don’t have an emerging pacer that can fit in 11.This season Multan emerging pacers Abbas Afridi and Ishanullah are topping the charts. Lahore has Zaman khan as an emerging player who is performing up to the mark.

Solution for Peshawar Bowling Woes:

The team needs to change their combination in upcoming matches. if they want to reclaim their past glory. Zalmi needs to replace Rajapaksa with Danish Aziz, who can provide depth in batting and can bowl two to three overs. By replacing Rajapaksa, they will have one overseas spot, Mujeeb or Richard Gleeson can play can solve their bowling problems.
