After the new regime change in PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), Zaka Ashraf took charge as the head of the PCB management committee. Many changes have been made and many more will be made in the coming days. Among the changes made by PCB chief Mr Zaka Asharf is Misbah’s appointment as head of the PCB technical committee.
Sources suggested that the former captain and coach suggest four names for the New Chief Selector. Misbah has approached Azhar, Inzamam, Waqar Younis, Mohammad Hafeez and Rashid Latif about serving on the cricket committee. However, they are requesting some time before making a decision.
Who is the New Chief Selector of Pakistan?
Misbah-ul-Haq takes charge of the newly formed PCB Technical Committee as the head. Misbah will be tasked to make major decisions, and one of the tasks is to suggest the national selection committee members.

Initially, reports suggest that Zaka Ashraf wanted to give this role to former captain Mohammad Hafeez, but Hafeez denied this offer due to some reasons. After that, the former coach and captain suggest the four names for the new chief selector.
The sources also claimed that the squads for the Afghanistan series, Asian Games, Asia Cup and ICC World Cup 2023 will be announced after the appointment of the new chief selector.
- Muhammad Wasim
Mohammad Wasim, who recently serves as the Pakistan chief selector in the Rameez Raja tenure will most likely take the charge again. Having done this job in the recent past, Mohammad Wasim knows the current pool of players and most of the players in the team are his selections.
The former test opener played 18 Tests and 25 ODIs and scored 1326 runs in all formats. He is one of the players who scored a century on his test debut.
- Inzamam-ul-Haq
Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former national selector and captain is also in the race for the head of the selection committee. Inzamam selected the team that won the Champion Trophy 2017 in England after beating India in the final.
A number of players, including Shadab Khan, Imam-ul-Haq Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, and many others, have come out of the former captain’s role as selector.
The former captain has played 120 Tests, 378 ODIS and one T20I. He scored 20,580 in international cricket for Pakistan.
- Mushtaq Ahmed
Mushtaq Ahmed served Pakistan in different coaching roles but this time he is nominated as the new chief selector for the team.
The former leg spinner represents Pakistan in 52 Tests and 144 ODIs. He picked up 346 wickets in red and white ball. Mushtaq was also a member of the 1992 team that won the World Cup.
- Azhar Ali
The former test captain, Azhar Ali is also nominated for this post. As a close friend of Misbah-ul-Haq, Azhar might become Pakistan’s new chief selector.
Azhar has represented Pakistan in 97 Tests and 53 ODIs and scored 8987 runs in these formats. In 2017, he was also a key member of the team that won the Champion Trophy.
