Karachi-born young cricketing sensation, and fast bowler M. Hamza Sohail stole the show with his impressive bowling skills in the National T20 Cup 2025. Making his debut, he represented Karachi Blues and took 7 wickets in the tournament, emerging as the highest wicket-taker for his team. As highlighted in M. Hamza Sohail’s interview, his rise to prominence showcases his dedication and talent, further evident in his notable performance in first-class cricket, claiming a 10-wicket haul.
From whom did he take inspiration?
M.Hamza Sohail’s interview revealed his childhood cricketing inspiration, he further said:
“Muhammad Amir was the spark that ignited my passion for cricket! Watching him dominate the 2009 T20 World Cup was a defining moment – I was utterly mesmerized! From that day on, I was consumed by an unrelenting desire to bowl just like him, to replicate his mastery, and to unleash my brand of magic on the pitch!”

Q: 1. What sparked your passion for cricket? Why did you choose to pursue a career in cricket over other sports?
A: in M. Hamza Sohail’s interview, he revealed that he had been a passionate cricket fan. In my free time, I’d play with friends. My parents recognized my potential and sent me to the UBL cricket academy to hone my skills. That’s where my journey began. Initially, I balanced studies and cricket, but after playing U19, I realized cricket demands full dedication and sacrifices. So, I focused solely on my game, letting go of other hobbies and studies.
Q: 2 . Who’s been your biggest support system throughout the journey?
A: My parents have been my rock, providing unwavering support throughout my journey. Their sacrifices have been instrumental in my success, and I vividly remember their struggles in buying me fast bowling spikes before the National U19 Cup. Beyond my parents, my entire family has been a pillar of strength, with my grandfather playing a particularly significant role. He would often accompany me to academies and matches, offering encouragement and guidance. During the early stages of my career, when opportunities were scarce – I didn’t feature in any U16 regional games and played only two U19 games at the regional level in two years, despite being part of the team – my family’s moral support was invaluable. They believed in me, trusted my abilities, and kept me motivated, even when chances were limited.
Q: 3. What is the most significant lesson you have learned throughout your cricketing career?
A: Cricket has been a profound teacher in my life. M. Hamza Sohail’s Interview revealed the importance of being in the moment, as just as a single ball can swing the momentum of a match, a single moment in life can alter its course entirely. Moreover, cricket has instilled in me the power of self-belief. The sport demands unwavering faith in one’s abilities, regardless of the situation. By believing in ourselves, we can navigate challenges and unlock positive outcomes, even in the face of adversity.

Q: 4. Being a Karachiite, do you think it’s quite difficult for people from Karachi to move forward into the relevant field?
A: I don’t believe that your city of origin is a determining factor in your success. If you have the talent and consistently deliver when given the chance, you’ll undoubtedly get recognised.
Q: 5. Who do you idolise in the world of cricket?
A: M. Hamza Sohail’s interview revealed Hamza’s admiration for Muhammad Amir’s aggressive and intent-driven bowling style, and I aspire to emulate that. However, I also want to carve out my own unique identity in the cricketing world and make a name for myself.
Q: 6 If you could play against any player past or present, who would it be and why?
A: I would love to bowl against Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist – two of the greatest batsmen of their era.
Q: 7. Being a part of Karachi Blues, with whom do you have the strongest bond? And why?
A: Playing for Karachi Blues in first-class and National T20 cricket was a great experience. Our coaches and management were very supportive, especially Agha Sabir Bhai, who provided excellent guidance. I bonded well with all my teammates, particularly Aarish Ali Khan, with whom I shared a room, and Khawaja Nafay, who was my constant cricketing companion.
Q: 8. How was your experience in the National T20 Cup?
A: Just before the start of my career in the National T20 Cup I was working on my skills with Rumman Raees who helped me a lot to improve, It was my first T20 tournament for my region, and I was super excited, having just wrapped up a successful first-class season where I claimed a 10-wicket haul in my second game. That performance boosted my confidence significantly, and I felt well-prepared to take on the challenge. I aimed to deliver on the expectations set by our management team.
Q: 9. Who has been your toughest opponent in your cricketing career?
A: I didn’t struggle much against most opponents, but Sharjeel was the toughest to face. He’s a batsman who can punish any looseness, so you can’t give him too much room or he’ll take full advantage of it and end up hammering the bowler.
