The Pakistan Cricket Board has revealed plans for three countrywide development programs, focused on activating sub-academies across seven cities. The endorsement for these initiatives came from Mr Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, following comprehensive consultations with Mohammad Hafeez, Director of Cricket.
Through a strategic collaboration with the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), the PCB is set to secure land in cities like Islamabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Lahore, and Peshawar for the establishment of sub-academies, aligning with the overarching development programs. Additionally, Karachi’s Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre and Multan’s Inzamam-Ul-Haq High-Performance Centre will serve as sub-academies, fully equipped with the necessary resources to contribute significantly to the success of the initiatives.
Tailored Training and Financial Support within the Initiatives
As part of these groundbreaking initiatives, there will be carefully designed specialized training camps, specifically tailored to meet the needs of both established national players and budding talents. Furthermore, U19 players are scheduled to receive comprehensive financial support in conjunction with skill-focused training and holistic grooming sessions to facilitate their seamless transition into proficient and professional cricketers. The commitment to financial support is a crucial aspect of these initiatives, ensuring that young talents receive the necessary resources to thrive in their cricketing journey.
Significance and Future Outreach of the Development Programs
The implementation of these development programs holds immense significance for the future of Pakistan cricket. Mohammad Hafeez emphasized the paramount importance of these initiatives, stating,
“The introduction of these three key initiatives marks a pivotal moment in nurturing our budding talents, refining the skills of our national players through targeted camps, and establishing year-round training facilities within sub-academies. This endeavour is crucial in preparing our players for the competitive demands of top-tier cricket. Enhancing our players’ abilities and granting them access to world-class facilities is imperative.
Furthermore, we aim to extend our reach to the less-accessible regions of interior Sindh and erstwhile FATA to discover and develop potential talent from these areas into globally competitive players, aligning with our overarching development programs.”
Qalandars’ High-Performance Centre: Nurturing Cricketing Stars for Pakistan
Lahore Qalandars, a franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), pioneered comprehensive development programs akin to the recent initiatives by the PCB. Their player development program, “Qalandars’ High-Performance Centre,” has notably borne fruit, showcasing remarkable talent and contributing significantly to the national team.
One such standout success story is Haris Rauf, who emerged from humble beginnings to become a prominent figure in Pakistan’s national cricket setup. Rauf’s journey from a tape-ball cricketer discovered in the Qalandars’ talent hunt program to a national team star epitomises the success of Lahore Qalandars’ developmental efforts.
The program’s emphasis on identifying talent from grassroots levels, providing world-class coaching, and offering exposure through leagues has been pivotal. Rauf’s swift rise serves as a testament to how structured developmental programs, like the one initiated by Lahore Qalandars, can unearth raw talent and mold them into future cricketing stars for the nation.
As stated by Lahore Qalandars, their High-Performance Centre aims to foster future sports stars by instilling resilience and leadership attributes.
“Qalandars’ High-Performance Centre is proud to be a far-sighted Academy that nurtures young generation of athletes into professionally successful sportsmen and sportswomen of the future. Players at Qalandars-HPC are trained to be stronger, to think and act as leaders and to equip themselves with confidence in the face of adversity on and off the field. We aim to transform our Qalandars into ‘GEATS OF THE FUTURE’ and their journey begins, right here with us at Qalandars-HPC”
