Pakistan javelin ace Arshad Nadeem won Gold and ended the country’s gold medal pursuit at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a historic victory alongside breaking the previous Olympic record with a mammoth 92.97-metre throw.
Remember, six of the seven athletes Pakistan sent were disqualified from their respective events and Arshad was the only hope to win the gold.

The men’s Javelin throws final in the Paris Olympics 2024 played on Thursday at 11:25 pm (PST) Pakistani Standard Time wherein Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal ending the 32-year wait for his country with Olympics 118-year history best throw.
Nadeem landed his record effort with his second throw of the night, and nobody else could get close to him after that. It was a high-quality final. The athlete has blazingly broken the previous record of 90.57 meters, which was set by Andreas Thorkildsen back in 2008 during the Beijing Olympics.
Nadeem ended Neeraj Chopra’s reign as Olympic champion with a stunning throw. Pakistan’s javelin throw player threw his arms up in celebration after breaking the Olympic record on his second throw.

Who were Arshad Nadeem’s competitors?
Nadeem competed against, Neeraj Chopra from India, Jakub Vadlejch from Czechia, Anderson Peters from Grenada, Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago, Lassi Etelätalo, Oliver Helander and Toni Keränen from Finland, Julian Weber from Germany, Julius Yego from Kenya, Andrian Mardare from Moldova and Luiz Mauricio da Silva from Brazil.
India’s Chopra also failed to make a mark in his first attempt, however, he recovered with an 89.45m throw to bag a silver medal. His third attempt was also ruled out. Chopra, comfortably ahead in qualifiers and favorite to win, looked off his best form.
Nadeem threw an Olympic record of 92.97 meters for victory, India’s defending champion Neeraj Chopra taking silver with 89.45. Grenada’s Anderson Peters claimed bronze with 88.54m.
Arshad Nadeem won Gold medal to end Pakistan’s 32-year drought with Olympic gold medal
In addition to winning a shiny gold award with his recovery throw, Arshad Nadeem’s name will now be dished in the golden books and stories of Pakistan.
Before Arshad’s remarkable victory, Pakistan had never won an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
All of Pakistan’s previous three gold medals came in field hockey, with their team winning gold in 1960, 1968 and 1984.
Prior to Thursday, only two Pakistan athletes had won individual medals of any color – with a wrestling bronze in 1960 and a boxing bronze in 1988.Since the 1992 Barcelona Games, Pakistan has not won a medal of any kind.
