The Indian fans have gone wild following the dismissal of Shubman Gill. He edged it at the Gully where all-rounder Cameron Green once again took a stunning catch. However, with the ball dying to his left, Green’s catch was called for a review. It looked like the ball touched the ground but the umpires gave it out. The Indian fans were not happy and they exploded on social media. Here’s their reaction to Gill’s Controversial Dismissal.
How the catch happened
Green plucked his left hand with the ball in his hands and the back palm on the ground, where umpires interviewed to see whether it was a clean catch. It took them a while to review the catch and it seemed at the moment that the ball was touching the grass. However, Cameron’s fingers were underneath the ground. After reviewing for a while, the third umpire, Richard Kettlebrough, ruled it against Gill’s favour.
There was no “Soft-signal” involved as it was removed from the ICC Playing Conditions at the start of June. This was only the second Test Match, after England vs Ireland, where the new rules played in. Kettlebrough had to decide the decision himself based on the conclusive evidence.
This caused massive outrage among the Indian fans where they all Booed and chanted “Cheater” on the ground. The social media exploded with curses and abuses by the fans. The Indian captain Rohit Sharma yelled “No!” when the decision of “OUT” showed up on the screen. He had a long conversation with the umpires.
The very moment after the decision was called, Tea was taken on Day 4. India needs 403 runs in one session and a whole day with nine wickets in hand.*
